The benefit of IR spectroscopy for urine stone analysis in Medirex, a. s.

Abstract:

Infrared spectroscopy allows relatively accurate and reliable analysis of the chemical composition of urinary stones, which is crucial for correct conservative treatment and prevention of recurrence of urinary stones. In 2016 we analyzed 812 stones in Medirex, a. s. There was a strong man dominance over women in our group of patients (2.3:1). Urolithiasis mainly affects the age group 30 – 69-years, with a peak of 60 – 69 years. The most frequent findings in our group of patients were whewellite in 28% of cases, whewellite – weddellite in 23%, whew- ellite – weddellite – calcium phosphate in 14% and uricit in 13%. Other types of urinary stones occurred significantly more rarely. The establishment of the IR spectroscopy method significantly improved the analysis of urinary stones.
